Manifesting Mission and Story

What is it that drives a Super Hero to wake day after day and embrace a life of service, despite the isolation, fleeting praise, and imminent threats that could one day
destroy that very life, and perhaps even the planet as a whole?

What is it that calls to your soul in the middle of the night and causes you to stir in body and being, beckoning you to consider how you play out your days?

What is it that guides a company, aligns hearts and minds of a team and drives the production and delivery of powerful products and services to those in need or want?

Simple. It is MISSION.

Mission is our purpose, our calling, that which ignites us, fuels us, and when lived out, ensures we matter to and in this world.

When considered, understood and embraced to the full with action and perseverance, there is little that cannot be achieved by the spirit who has clear and present mission in mind.

The Phone Booth Project seeks out and praises those living mission in their own profound, simple, glorious, consistent, passionate ways. We are in awe of how they conduct their lives, their works, and deem them Members of the League of Xtraordinary Game-Changers to honor their magnificence.

But how did they get there? I do not believe a one of them ‘fell’ into their heroic role in this world. I do not believe for one second that their days simply unfold haphazardly.

I would bet my life that they have spent countless minutes, months, years, considering their purpose on this planet and at each step along their journey have weighed each experience, skill, calling and pieced together how it all fits for THIS…their Mission.

In the movie Rango, this fake-it-til-you-make-it hero pretends to be more than he is. Although he inspires the masses, his identity of ‘normal’ is discovered and he flees, only to serendipitously encounter The Spirit of the West (good ole Clint Eastwood). Rango asks him want he’s ‘doing out there’.
“Searchin’, same as you.”
“I’m a fraud. My friends need some kinda hero.”
“Then be a hero.”
…”I can’t go back.”
“Don’t know that ya gotta choice son. No man can walk out on his own story.”

Your story is your mission. Whether you’ve identified it or not, it is calling to you. If you haven’t written it down on paper for yourself, then you are probably juggling a few versions of your mission in your mind and this alone can muddy the waters of focused, successful effort.

I’ve spent a career helping companies hone in on their mission, but my life mission came into play when I decided I couldn’t and wouldn’t help a company define their professional mission, and build campaigns based on that mission, before each of the leaders came to terms with their personal life mission.

We must be intimately aware of and engaged in our own story if we ever hope to authentically empower others to come to terms with theirs.

Now is YOUR time, to define or redefine, or tighten up or revamp altogether, your mission so that you wake each morning able to do what you must do to don that cape and keep on flying forth for the good of your awaiting citizens and souls. This knowing of your truth, your passion, your purpose here will see you thru as the bombs of criticism, doubt and indecision invade, as they will. This knowing, this mission, will enable and empower you to use the universe as your ally as you manifest the deepest desires of your soul.

And now, your MISSION, should you choose to accept it is…
Determine and clearly Define YOUR Mission in this life.

A few questions to trigger your innately heroic voice within so you can hone in or take your current mission to a deeper, higher level.

1. What are your top 10 values in this life?
2. Are you spending your time and energy focused on these values?
3. How can you better spend your time and energy to ensure you are aligning your ACTIONS with your VALUES?
4. What is your purpose here on this planet? (Don’t make this a huge complicated process, just answer, from your innate, authentic self…GO)
5. NOW…Write your Mission Statement (The theme of YOUR Story) – No longer than 3 sentences. Should stretch you, but not snap you. Be visionary, but realistic. Write in the NOW, as if it already is (because it IS. The moment you write this, the universe is conspiring to make it so)! 🙂

I have spent many hours pondering and playing with that question in my head…”why am I here…what is my purpose…what should I do?” It was not until you made me look at my life with a ‘mission in mind’ and plan it out according to it that it started to clear. It is in embracing my mission that path became clear. Thanks to you I am starting to see that ‘cape’ in the mirror…and I am starting to love that reflection!

Love this Heather!! Thank you. Most of us spend more time planning a 2 week vacation than we do our lives. These questions swirl for so many of us, but it is in the deliberate answering that the clarity comes isn’t it?! I’m so thrilled you can see that cape that ‘is’ my friend. I so look forward to watching you soar:) Jenni

Great post! I have worked so hard on my life mission that one time I scored my own theme song then purchased a shirt from Think Geek’s website that let me upload and play it as I walked down the street : )
